Over the weekend Google added the remaining states (mostly in the Northeast) to the list of where Tags are now offered.
The questions remaining are when will Tags rollout to Canada, Europe and the rest of the world and if Google will create other efforts at monetizing Local.

Brilliant! Any hint of a UK rollout?
I am so looking forward to this

Hi David
The rollout in the US from test to full implementation in less than 5 months. Google, when they build, build to scale worldwide so one can only presume that it will not be that long.
That being said, I have no special indication that it is imminent.

Do use of tags affect the rank of search results?

Sorry Adrien
Tags do not affect ranking in any way (according to google). They explicitly state, “Tags do not affect the rank of search results; they simply add more information when a particular user is searching.”
Even though they don’t help ranking, if you already rank on the first or second page for a few good keywords, I can definitely see the advantage of using Tags – especially if you are ranked “F” or”G” (in the 7 pack) or even “I” or “J” in the top 10.
