The flow of KML information through Google

Barry Hunter of Nearby.org.uk, one of the most knowledgeable people about Google Maps and Google Earth, has created a flow chart showing the path that geo referenced information takes from the KML file on your  website into Google’s geo properties.

  1. Thank you very much. Certainly a lot to study. I am just amazed how some one can figure all this out and not be on the inside of Google. Certainly shows many places to take action on for local search to make sure the information feed is picked up.

  2. I could not tell from the graph, but does it appear if Google Maps considers the authority or page rank of the referring site in determining the Local result rankings?

  3. The chart does not address the ranking of local listings, only the flow of geo data from one area of Google to the next.

Authority in the geo referenced world of Google Maps is of necessity measured somewhat differently than in the web world. Pagerank seems to only marginally correlate, if at all, to Maps ranking.
