Understanding Google My Business & Local Search
Google Places: Growing Reports of “We currently do not support the location”
Update: One of the posters in the forum whose listing has gone into limbo noted that he just received the following email from Google:
Thank you for your patience during this entire process while working with me. We have been working on a technical issue that has affected many users. Unfortunately, it appears your listing has also been affected. This probably happened because your listing has gone through recent information edits and modifications. Have no fear however! We are aware of the incorrect information you emailed about and are taking steps to fix it. You should see the information appearing correctly within four weeks’ time. If, in four weeks, you are still experiencing this problem, please respond to this email. Thank you for your patience.
Update 10:30 pm:
There have been reports in the German forums of a user making as many as five changes to the record before the listing came back from the dead. I think it as likely the quantity and repetiviness is as important as the specific action or the order but who knows. CAVEAT EMPTOR. Why this has happened is unclear as is the impact of multiple changes on the state of your listing.
Update 11/2:
At least one user that attempted the more aggressive approach has reported lost reviews.
There are a growing number of instances in the forums of businesses reporting that their listing is not showing in Places and their listing, when accessed via the dashboard, displays the foreboding message “We currently do not support the location”. There have been over 30 reports of the problem in the last 3 days.
For some the work around for “We currently do not support the location” reported here last month has done the trick but for others their listing remains in Google limbo.
If your listing is showing the message try the work around. If you are unlucky and it doesn’t work, report the problem in this consolidated thread at the Forums that Google is tracking.

Mike,
I just wanted to mention some problems have been reported lately by some of our clients.
1- Listing is losing the link to the company’s website (It just shows maps.google.com) instead.
2- Listing is dropping in rank, after some research we found out that the listing changed from showing the physical address to a hidden address (You still can see the town).
3- Some listings have been verified for a long time, over 8 weeks. The dashboard is showing sign of impressions and clicks to the website and directions but the listing is no where to be found on Google Search nor maps.
4- Some listings you can find them by their phone numbers but not by Company’s name, city and zip code search. Those listings are also not published yet and have been verified for a long time now.
We’d like to hear any update from Google on such situations. Google places are having lots of issues lately and it’s affecting a big number of businesses. Any official comment on those issues will calm us down along with business owners.
@Pierre
Thanks for the updates. Good summary and it adds some context. I had noticed and dealt with #1 (a quick save fixes it). I had read about #2 but had not seen the cause. Thanks.
It is hard working from the forums and not experiencing the issues directly to be able to ID them so clearly.
I doubt we will hear from Google. But maybe.
@Pierre There is a solution for #1 and TONS are having this problem.
I blogged the solution a couple days ago. The person that posted the fix said to add http:// in front of the link and that fixes it. Evidently some users added their URL as www. which used to work but then G changed something.
However I had one client with a missing URL, but when I logged in, the http was already there. So I just deleted URL and put it back in, then it worked.
FYI on the error reported in this post from the support link Mike shared). A forum member today said he got this email from Google.
“DONT WORRY GUYS I JUST GOT THIS EMAIL FROM A GOOGLE REP:

Thanks for this post. I’ve been dealing with the “we currently do not support this location” issue for a while now. Then I read in a post today from “blsy” on the Google Places Forum to change the map marker position just a bit. This worked for me. Nice. But I will keep the suggestion above in my tool box.
@Bailey
After speaking with other TC in the German forums and looking at examples, I think it unlikely to be any specific action that recovers the record. Any save might do it. The problem occurs when one, two or even three saves with slightly different data doesn’t do the trick. In the German forum a user took the 5 steps noted above and recovered the record.
Anyone have a fix for edits to a long-verified listing not showing up? It’s been about 6 weeks since the edits were made.
@Mary
There appears to be a new filter that prevents instant publication… at least of description. It is not clear why it takes so long to show. But there doesn’t appear to be a work around.
Newly created business listings for new businesses in my most recent experience (2 listings) take about 4 weeks to six weeks to published status. It then takes another 4 to 6 weeks to begin to gain some level of ranking traction. Regarding other issues, I have been dealing with a clustering issue where two separate businesses at the same building address and in the same business category had been completely conflated. It has been nothing short of a nightmare as one could imagine. Even having direct contact with Google, it has been more then 3 months and their last email to me said they finally have them separated but wait two more weeks. Finally, we have no less than four separate situations where an older, perhaps by years, outdated listing NAP info returns and either takes the place of the current listing or subordinates the correct listing.
I had the this exact same problem with a client website and had tried publishing an update, making changes etc but no luck. Anyway after reading this note about the guy changing 5 things, I just kept going making minor changes and saving until it worked. Moved location marker, updated description, etc. What finally worked was redoing ALL categories, and it finally fixed itself.
So – if you have having problems – try at least 5-10 changes before giving up, it might just fix it, did for me!
Re the do not support this location problem…
I’ve been worried about the frequency of reports lately, so asked Vanessa to provide some insight in the forum and she did right away.
Here is what she said: http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/Places/thread?hl=en&tid=6cccf153cc8b6d8b
FYI Vanessa has been very proactive and has her team working to offer more forum support. Plus if you haven’t tried it yet the new troubleshooter usually provides direct support from a Google rep within 48 hours or so typically. So things are improving! (The troubleshooter path can be confusing depending on the problem, but just keep trying to select appropriate options until you get to a form where you can explain the issue and a REAL person will contact you to fix the problem.)
