Netmarketshare: Mobile Browsing up to 2.8% of All Browsing; Android Gains but Dwarfed by iOS4
Netmarketshare has released their September numbers and mobile browsing has climbed to 2.8% of all browsing and increase of 136% year over year.
In the “battle” between iOS4 and Android they report “although Android devices are rapidly gaining usage share, iOS has 4.9 times the global usage share of all Android devices”.

Mobile is up..and its usage reflects a higher percentage of local. Its good that guys like you and Greg and others keep reporting on this so that Neanderthals like me have an opportunity to learn 😀

Yes the numbers are getting significant, perhaps surpassing Safari market share by next year. Clearly, the time is upon us to not only check our sites in Firefox, Chrome, Safari and IE (but not 6), but also in iOS4 and possibly Android.
But first you have to get a smartphone 🙂
I wonder if they are lumping the iPad and similar tablet devices into these mobile traffic numbers. It may be a mobile device but in my opinion is a fundamentally different kind of mobile vs a smartphone. To me, browsing on an ipad is not much different than a laptop, or using your laptop from a wifi at the coffee shop (making your laptop a mobile device). Larger tablet screen sizes makes for full website browsing vs. sites that have a mobile dedicated version for the small phone screens.
