Understanding Google My Business & Local Search
Google Places Pages & IE8 Display Bug
Apparently we are not the only web design firm that gets indigestion making pages compatible with the many versions Internet Explorer.
There are a number of reports (here, here, here, here) in the Google Maps forums detailing a display bug when viewing Google’s recently introduced Places pages in IE 8.
The bug, first identified & detailed in the forum by EHG, prevents a user from seeing some details of the listing. Apparently when viewed in Firefox and Chrome the information is able to be viewed.

@PureSheer
Thanks for the tip. It was this one right?
“I was having the same problem with my listing – however, as soon as I marked the “do not show business hours” box, the place page in IE worked fine (all the photos, details, reviews, etc appeared). Perhaps there is also a bug with the hours?”
Tsk tsk, did the designer only look at the page in Chrome? Heh heh.
@Miriam
Apparently so. 🙂
@Mike
Yep, this is hers 🙂
oh the joys of cross browser HTML/CSS design 🙂
Ahhh, I just posted on a very old post of yours, wondering if there was any new information…how dumb of me.
Thanks for the updates. The new Google Places idea is interesting, as are a lot of things you can do with web design, but IE refuses to keep up. Thanks for the post. It’s comforting to know, it’s frustrating others as well.
