Understanding Google My Business & Local Search
Google Updates GMB Insights Email
Google, just off releasing a raft of new products and still testing others, has significantly updated the monthly Insights email that is being sent to GMB account owners.
This email, one of many email notifications that the GMB is sending out, has signficantly more information than the previous email. Particularly this new email sends specific details instead of a rounding off at 999.
When viewed with the many other new emails that GMB is generating (notification of customer uploaded photos, posts expiring) as well as the emails around new reviews, ad credits, calls to action to add a new Website, and update your listing, Google has significantly upped their communication game around the GMB.
I am curious your thoughts on the new email? Will it attract business owners back into the GMB? How about all of the other email communication that is coming out of Google? Are they driving you and your clients back into the dashboard? What do you see as Google’s goal beyond simple engagement?
Here is the new monthly Insights email:
For comparison here is the email from last month:

Quick on the trigger Mike. I just noticed these new emails this morning and I like them. Still has the relevant information, plus a few months of historic data, in addition to reviews. I think this is a nice upgrade in email form.
Time will tell if this drives customers/agencies back into the GMB dashboard but at least G is trying now.
@Brian
For sure they are making an effort at communicating
More emails
improved emails
front page visibility
And they are increasing the reasons to visit the GMB in addition to reviews
Posts.
Messaging test
Curious if that is enough or if more is required.
Only got one this month so far and it still looks like the one from last month. I’m in the UK maybe this is just in the US so far. Could also be due to smaller numbers and being a new page and site, but unlikely.
I’ve been seeing these now. I can say that my clients enjoy them.
I saw multiple variations of this email for different clients, likely based on the data available to each client. I like this idea of dynamically changing what data is sent to the client.
I like that “managers” of listings are now getting email alerts when reviews are posted. Is this new? or just sporadic or buggy? It’s new that I’m receiving them as a manager. All good signs, Mike.
@Jeffrey
Relatively new. But in general who gets what is still a confusing mess.
Seems to be a lot going on with GMB lately. Websites, Google Posts, new emails. I agree that there’s definitely a real effort happening here to engage business owners
