Understanding Google My Business & Local Search
How Do I Merge Two Google+ Page Pages? A Very Common Question
Update July 2014: If you are looking to convert a Brand page to a Local page Google has recently released that functionality. Read about it here: Google Now Allows Brand Pages to Become Google+ Local Pages
Because of the slow and never ending transition of Places to Plus and because of less than stellar communications from Google since the rollout of Plus, a very large number of small local businesses have ended up with more than one Google+ Page.
Over the past 6 weeks I have received a stead stream of inquiries as to how to deal with the situation. I wrote up my answer today at LocalU.

Awesome – we have a client with duplicate pages and have been working to help her synch the two. It’s been a challenge since she had a bad SEO provider who earned her a Penguin 1.0 slap, and it was so bad we scrapped the domain and moved on to a new one. The old domain had NOTHING but junk links on it, so no harm done.
The old provider kept ownership of her first page, and the URLs are different, so Google has locked us out of it. I’ll go check your write up. Very glad you put this together for us. Cheers Mike!
I’ve read your article over and over, but I’m still not clear about which is the right option for me. I have a local and a national page. What is the point of the national page? I dare not delete it in case it has a function, but I can’t find out any information on what that function might be!
Your article doesn’t really help and it’s just a long-winded way of saying “You can keep both pages or delete the national one, but apart from that I don’t know the answer”.
If the local page is most likely to come up in national search results, what’s the point of the national page?
Thanks for trying anyway. It’s ok to say “I don’t know,” though.

This article is very outdated. You can read current information here: How Do I Merge My Google + Pages? Usually You Can’t, Now What? and here: The relative value of one page type in Google + versus another.
Hi Mike thank you for the information. I have a question for you that I hope you can answer. We had an existing Google+ page that we couldn’t have customers leave reviews on. I followed your advice and created a new G+page and then had Google verify it. Once it was verified I went to settings of the verified page and wanted to link the old page to the new page. I can link another G+ page just not the one I want to link (my original G+page) . In fact it is not even an option. So my question is what can I do to keep my G+url & get customers to leave reviews. I don’t want to have 2 G+ pages as it might get confusing. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Now that you have both a brand (https://plus.google.com/101070256570912794888/posts) and a local page (https://plus.google.com/114826507753422705518/about) you need to convert your brand page to a local page. See this article for details.
Essentially this will transfer the local verification to the brand page and convert the local page to a brand page. At that point you can delete that page.

Google does not allow verified local pages to be merged. You need to mark one as closed and move the other to the new location from within the dashboard.
Hi Mike,
Thank you for solving my previous problem.
I have another question regarding Google+ vanity URL, Actually my client have a profile page which was customized with vanity URL (for example: plus.google.com/+abc) & also they have a Google Plus Local Page which is not customized yet but have option to get URL, and my client want to customize it with “+abc” name (which was already used in profile vanity URL), How do I get this vanity name for Google+ Local Page???
Do this possible if I delete Google+ profile page??? If yes how long it takes to get back the name??
I would appreciate if you could help me in this.
Thanks,
Aslam
