Understanding Google My Business & Local Search
Geo Sitemap Generator Adds New Features
The “grand daddy” of geo sitemap generators has recently included some new features. Geo Sitemap Generator, first released by Arjan Snaterse in 2009, has added the ability to generate either a schema.org file or a microformatted file of your contact information. In addition to the features in the geo sitemap tool from 51Blocks that I reviewed last week, Geo Sitemap Generator supports multiple locations and now provides a preview of the KML file locations on a Map.
The benefits of multiple locations are obvious if you need them. The benefits of the map preview are not so obvious but very real. KML files require a mapping API to generate the lat long info included in the file. Sometimes the information from the API, even from the same map provider, renders the location differently than reality or differently than the public mapping program. It has always been a good idea to check the KML file’s lat-long accuracy by loading it into something like Google Earth to be sure that it pins the locations correctly. Now Geo Sitemap Generator previews the pins on a Map for you when you go to download your files saving you a necessary step.

Mike, thanks a lot for this!
To all: if you’d like to see more or other features in this tool: please let me know!
That’s a nice addon, especially if Google detects them as rich snippets and adds them to the search engine result pages.
What a great new feature!It is so annoying when the pin doesn’t align exactly where it should be.
Hi,
Your tool would be great if you could add multiple URL’s.
For example, I’m looking to make a KML sitemap for a company that has over 90different locations nationwide. Each one of these locations has its own page within our website (e.g. mysite.com/region/region1 and mysite.com/region/region2 etc) – so ideally i’d like to add a URL related to each region on each pinpoint.
Is there a way to do this? At the moment all i can see is the ability to add only one URL – which then covers every location.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Aaron
@aaron
The tool does allow you to add multiple locations
Hi Mike, thanks but how? I’m using the geositemapgenerator.com tool and i can’t see a way of doing it.
There’s no “URL” box until you get to stage 2, and at that stage it only allows for a single URL.
I tried to use the 51blocks tool, when i use that i can see the URL box, but i can’t see a way of adding multiple locations/URLs?
Am i being stupid? How do you do it? Any help would be very much appreciated
Hi Aaron,
Multiple locations can be uploaded via a CSV file (just check the “File upload” radio button on the left).
The tool however, doesn’t support URL’s per location yet, but I’ll put it on our todo list 🙂
Cheers,
Arjan
Hy there,
I also find it interesting and useful, just like Jan Willen said and I’ve tried to apply for a few sites but I have the same error in GWT after submitting. The error is: Invalid XML tag
This tag was not recognized. Please fix it and resubmit. Onestly, I don’t know how to fix this. Does anybody have an idea?
Thanks a lot!
Maria
Does anyone know where the geositemapgenerator.com tool has gone? I only receive an error when trying to access it for the last week or so. Thanks.
@Kendall
I emailed Arjan and he said that he is having server troubles but that the product is still up (once he gets the server issues fixed).
Yes, there were some issues with my server, which seems to be fixed now.
Sorry for the inconvenience!
Wow, now that is service. Thanks so much gentlemen! Glad to have the tool back, we use it often. I have donated to your project in the past, but I just did another little one as a small thank you.
Thanks 🙂
