Understanding Google My Business & Local Search
Next LocalU Advanced – NYC September 30

Awesome… will be there!!!
Going to try to make this one.
I have a question. You addressed this a while ago, but what is the latest on setting up G+ and NAP for professionals, like doctors? Do you recommend setting up unique listing for their business name and their own name? Do they need a unique NAP+W?
@JeffM
Google typically requires that you have a listing per practice and per practitioner. You do not need a different website for each. In fact they would probably do better ranking if they had one website.
If you don’t want Google to merge them, you probably need a unique phone number for each practitioner.
Darn it. This overlaps the TC Summit. I guess I won’t see you there Mike?
Unfortunately, I won’t be there 🙁 #2 on the way and moving into a new house.
Hopefully there will be another Advanced in early 2014.
@Joy
Yes, unfortunately since this event is done in conjunction with SMX we didn’t have much flexibility on the day. I am disappointed to miss the TC conference as well.
@Chris
Congrats on the new house! We are planning another advanced event in early March in Valley Forge. Details soon.
Thanks for you quick reply, Mike. two last questions: should the links associated with each NAP go to different pages on the site – one to the home page and one to the “About Doctor Smith” page? Do we need a unique address for each, such as 101 Main St Suite A and 101 Main St Suite B?

This is up to you and there is no hard rule. Usually I recommend that use the logic of “what is best for the reader” and direct them to the most relevant page. Usually that would be the practice to the home page and each practitioner to their own page.

No. In theory you don’t even need unique phone numbers as it is not a requirement. But we recommend them because the Google merge and purge routine needs it otherwise it will merge the listings.
