They <a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/asmythie\/sets\/72157626087313732\/\">inundated<\/a> Portland businesses and individuals with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.davidmihm.com\/blog\/google\/hotpot-portland-update\/\">high visibility ads<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/redesignmobile.com\/2011\/02\/19\/google-hotpot-takes-a-stand-in-portland\/\">marketing<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/blumenthals.com\/blog\/2011\/04\/19\/google-places-schwag-schwag-and-more-schwag-in-more-places\/\">schwag<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/hotpot.blogspot.com\/2010\/12\/google-and-trail-blazers-team-up.html\">high profile sponsorships<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>We don&#8217;t know the number of additional claimed Places listings but we do know that it lead to a dramatic uptick in their ratings and reviews, moving them to near parity with Yelp in the important restaurant industry within several months.<\/p>\n<p>It makes sense that they would leverage this visibility to introduce their new <a href=\"http:\/\/blumenthals.com\/blog\/2011\/01\/21\/google-confirms-testing-a-groupon-like-product-google-offers\/\">50% Offers beta<\/a>. Over the weekend we started to see general purpose Offers videos, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.google.com\/support\/offers\/\">help files<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/offers\/t#!subscribe\">end user<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.google.com\/landing\/offers\/index.html\">business<\/a> sign up forms.
