EarlPearl, the moderator of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.seorefugee.com\/forums\/forumdisplay.php?f=68\">Geo Targeting Forum<\/a> at SeoRefugee, pointed out to me the odd results on the search <a href=\"http:\/\/www.google.com\/search?hl=en&amp;client=safari&amp;rls=en&amp;q=advertising+agencies+near+washington+dc&amp;btnG=Search\">advertising agencies + locale<\/a>\u00c2\u00a0on which he wondered &#8220;<em>What does Google Maps have against Advertising Agencies?&#8221;:<\/em><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blumenthals.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/06\/advertagencies.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-699\" title=\"advertagencies\" src=\"http:\/\/blumenthals.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/06\/advertagencies.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"273\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blumenthals.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/06\/advertagencies.jpg 500w, https:\/\/blumenthals.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/06\/advertagencies-300x163.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>It doesn&#8217;t seem to matter which city you search on, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.google.com\/search?hl=en&amp;client=safari&amp;rls=en&amp;q=advertising+agencies+near+New+York&amp;btnG=Search\">Advertising Agencies New York <\/a>or <a href=\"http:\/\/www.google.com\/search?hl=en&amp;client=safari&amp;rls=en&amp;q=advertising+agencies+near+SF+Ca&amp;btnG=Search\">Advertising Agencies San Francisco<\/a> return equally bizarre results; hotels, book stores, restaurants and museums. No agencies though. The search phrase in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.google.com\/search?hl=en&amp;client=safari&amp;rls=en&amp;q=advertising+agency+near+New+York&amp;btnG=Search\">singular<\/a> or agencies other than advertising agencies return reasonable results.<\/p>\n<p>While I doubt that Google hates advertising agencies there is more than a little irony in the error which I presume is caused by bit being switched in their tagging\/category structure and not a personalty quirk.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I spend way too much time looking at Maps and so I often see the &#8220;mistakes&#8221; that remind us the Google is human too.
