It was reported below by Cavan Moon of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.eclickperformance.com\/\">eClickPerformance<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Stephen Peron of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.imnotadoctor.com\">ImNotaDoctor.com<\/a> reports a case of Mapspam that he discovered while researching the phrase &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.google.com\/search?hl=en&amp;client=safari&amp;rls=en&amp;pwst=1&amp;sa=X&amp;oi=spell&amp;resnum=0&amp;ct=result&amp;cd=1&amp;q=internet+consulting+san+diego+ca&amp;spell=1\">San Diego internet consulting<\/a>&#8221; (graphic courtesy of Imnotadoctor.com):<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.imnotadoctor.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/05\/google-map-spam.jpg\" height=\"350\" width=\"500\" \/><\/p>\n<p>He noted that the listing <a href=\"http:\/\/www.google.com\/search?q=Dallas+internet+consulting&amp;btnG=Search\">shows up<\/a> for every major city as well. The spammer appears to have <a href=\"http:\/\/maps.google.com\/maps?f=q&amp;view=text&amp;hl=en&amp;q=%22big+local%22+site:clovers.com&amp;ie=UTF8&amp;sa=N&amp;start=990\">posted his listing 4,176 times<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/blumenthals.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/05\/biglocal.jpg\" alt=\"biglocal.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p>It is of interest that the spammer does so well on such a broad range of terms over so many cities. For example on the search: &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.google.com\/search?hl=en&amp;client=safari&amp;rls=en&amp;q=local+internet+marketing+Ny+NY&amp;btnG=Search\">Local Internet Marketing NY NY<\/a>&#8221; :<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/blumenthals.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/05\/internetmarketingny.jpg\" alt=\"internetmarketingny.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p>And on the phrase: &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.google.com\/search?hl=en&amp;client=safari&amp;rls=en&amp;q=local+internet+consulting+Chicago+il&amp;btnG=Search\">local internet consulting Chicago il<\/a>&#8220;:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/blumenthals.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/05\/internetconsultingchi.jpg\" alt=\"internetconsultingchi.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This spam raises several interesting questions for me.<\/p>\n<p>1)This was clearly a bulk upload that I was under the impression were now reviewed by Google. Big Local even notes in their listing: <em>&#8220;Not a Physical Location.&#8221; <\/em><\/p>\n<p>2)It ranks well for terms that there are few if any indicators it should rank well for. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.biglocal.com\/\">Their site<\/a> has a low page rank and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.google.com\/search?hl=en&amp;client=safari&amp;rls=en&amp;q=site%3Awww.clovers.com&amp;btnG=Search\">not much optimized content<\/a>.
