Phone numbers have returned. Please temporarily store your tin hats.<\/p>\n<p>The local world is buzzing this morning as it appears that Google has removed or perhaps lost the phone numbers from the Local Universal Results. Matt McGee noticed them <a href=\"http:\/\/www.smallbusinesssem.com\/google-pulls-local-phone-numbers-from-search-display\/2426\/\">missing<\/a> from the <a href=\"http:\/\/blumenthals.com\/blog\/2009\/10\/08\/google-maps-are-the-10-packs-now-the-7-packs\/\">Lucky-7 Pack<\/a> and SEO Book <a href=\"http:\/\/www.seobook.com\/more-ways-google-embed-themselves-your-conversion-stream\">noticed<\/a> them gone from the Authoritative OneBox. There are also reports of fewer OneBoxes showing in results.<\/p>\n<p>Of interest is that while they are gone from Local Universal results they remain in the <a href=\"http:\/\/blumenthals.com\/blog\/category\/articles-about-googles-local-listing-ads\/\">Local Listing Ads<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blumenthals.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/no-phone-except-lla.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-5134\" title=\"no-phone-except-lla\" src=\"http:\/\/blumenthals.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/no-phone-except-lla.jpg\" alt=\"no-phone-except-lla\" width=\"520\" height=\"623\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blumenthals.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/no-phone-except-lla.jpg 520w, https:\/\/blumenthals.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/no-phone-except-lla-125x150.jpg 125w, https:\/\/blumenthals.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/no-phone-except-lla-450x539.jpg 450w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 520px) 100vw, 520px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Did Google misplace phone numbers for every business in the world? Are they planning on rolling out a call tracking system? Or were they just &#8220;neatening&#8221; up the display along the lines of other <a href=\"http:\/\/searchengineland.com\/googles-biggest-3rd-quarter-ad-change-moving-ads-closer-to-free-results-28011\">recent changes <\/a>to better display ads? Earlpearl noted in an email: &#8220;<em>My first reaction is that removing phone numbers rolls people into more clicks, less phone calls.  Possibly a way to hopefully generate more click throughs.  Possibly an experiment.
