{"id":4904,"date":"2009-10-16T08:27:43","date_gmt":"2009-10-16T12:27:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blumenthals.com\/blog\/?p=4904"},"modified":"2009-10-21T14:10:20","modified_gmt":"2009-10-21T18:10:20","slug":"local-listing-ads-when-do-the-blue-pins-show-on-the-map","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blumenthals.com\/blog\/2009\/10\/16\/local-listing-ads-when-do-the-blue-pins-show-on-the-map\/","title":{"rendered":"Local Listing Ads: When do the Blue Pins Show on the Map?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Update 10\/21: According to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.google.com\/reader\/shared\/joel.headley\">Joel Headley of Google<\/a>:<em> The blue pin is there &#8211; it&#8217;s just hiding behind the &#8220;D&#8221; marker.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>My curiosity was piqued when I <a href=\"http:\/\/blumenthals.com\/blog\/2009\/10\/15\/local-listing-ads-doing-call-tracking-with-google-voice\/#more-4893\">noticed<\/a> that the blue pins for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.google.com\/search?client=safari&#038;rls=en&#038;q=dentist+san+diego&#038;ie=UTF-8&#038;oe=UTF-8\">some Local Listing Ads<\/a> were not showing on the Local Lucky 7- Pack Map.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/blumenthals.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/10\/Listin-ad-1SDpin.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/blumenthals.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/10\/Listin-ad-1SDpin-450x405.jpg\" alt=\"Listing-ad-San-Diego\"  width=\"520\" height=\"460\"\/><\/a> <\/p>\n<p>So what was up? <!--more--><\/p>\n<p>I performed a second search for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.google.com\/search?client=safari&#038;rls=en&#038;q=dentist+san+francisco&#038;ie=UTF-8&#038;oe=UTF-8\">Dentist in San Francisco<\/a> and noticed that consistently on that search, two of the four pins for Local Listing Ad participants were not showing. When I went back and double checked the <a href=\"http:\/\/blumenthals.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/10\/Picture-19.png\">Local Listing Ads<\/a> from last week, the pin display was the same for Dentist San Francisco, only 2 of the 4 had them.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blumenthals.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/10\/Listing-ad-4SF2pins.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/blumenthals.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/10\/Listing-ad-4SF2pins.jpg\" alt=\"Listing-ad-4SF2pins\" width=\"520\" height=\"526\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The likely explanation is that the pin will only show if the location of the advertiser is within the default map presented for the <a href=\"http:\/\/blumenthals.com\/blog\/2009\/10\/08\/google-maps-are-the-10-packs-now-the-7-packs\/\">Lucky-7 Pack<\/a>. That means that some advertisers will have an ad but not a pin.
