Last week (w\/e 14\/03\/09)\u00a0<\/em>Twitter.com<\/em><\/a>\u00a0was the 54th most visited website in the UK, up from 66th the week before. One consequence of Twitter\u00a0<\/em>rapid<\/em><\/a>\u00a0<\/em>rise<\/em><\/a>\u00a0up the rankings is that the micro-blogging service has now overtaken most of the UK newspapers online. As the chart below illustrates, last week Twitter received more UK Internet visits than the homepages of the\u00a0<\/em>Guardian<\/em><\/a>,\u00a0<\/em>Times<\/em><\/a>,\u00a0<\/em>Sun<\/em><\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<\/em>Telegraph<\/em><\/a>. It also over took Google News UK. Of the main newspaper homepages, only the\u00a0<\/em>Daily Mail<\/em><\/a>\u00a0received more UK Internet visits than Twitter last week.<\/em>
