It appears that Google Maps has passed Mapquest as the most visited mapping site:<\/p>\n<p><a href='http:\/\/siteanalytics.compete.com\/mapquest.com+maps.google.com\/?metric=uv'><img src='http:\/\/grapher.compete.com\/mapquest.com+maps.google.com_uv_460.png' \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Google Maps has been gaining on Mapquest for the past two years. <a href=\"http:\/\/blumenthals.com\/blog\/2008\/11\/07\/local-market-share-october-google-resumes-upward-swing\/\">Hitwise data in October<\/a> indicated that Maps was closing in on Mapquest. While MapQuest may have &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/blumenthals.com\/blog\/2008\/11\/26\/mapquest-\u201cwe\u2019ve-come-out-of-hibernation\u201d\/\">come out of hibernation<\/a>&#8221; and have introduced a <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.mapquest.com\/2008\/12\/23\/top-8-in-2008-a-mapquest-year-in-review\/\">number of new features<\/a> in the Local space, it does not appear to be fast enough.<\/p>\n<p>These number reflect worldwide traffic. Google has a much stronger presence than MapQuest in much of Asia &#038; Africa while Mapquest has <a href=\"http:\/\/blumenthals.com\/blog\/2008\/11\/25\/search-trends-for-mapquest-google-maps\/\">traditionally been strong<\/a> in North America. It would be of interest to see the US and European numbers broken out as well.
