With the rollout of review sentiment snippets\u00a0to the Knowledge Panel<\/a> in Local search, Google has again elevated reviews another notch in their visibility and impact. These\u00a0“review synopses”<\/span>\u00a0are not just more visible\u00a0but in being just one sentence and\u00a0clearly\u00a0highlighted they are\u00a0more capable of having greater affect on the reader.<\/p>\n

In the\u00a0previous incarnation of sentiment snippets\u00a0(still extant on the about page)\u00a0Google amassed a jumble of words that really had little affect and was easily ignored. The\u00a0graph is clear but the sentiments\u00a0provide little of value and no context :<\/p>\n

The new review synopsis\u00a0on the other hand stands out and guarantees, by both the brevity and boldness, a higher likelihood of being read and\u00a0a higher likelihood\u00a0of impacting the searcher attitude:<\/p>\n

We know<\/a> that a negative review or two in a list of positive reviews is often a benefit and increases the likelihood of a purchase. We also know<\/a> that a negative review corpus is more likely to hurt a business than a positive review corpus is to help.<\/p>\n

What we don’t know is if this new, brief treatment in a complete sentence with words bolded and\u00a0people’s photograph\u00a0will change those dynamics. I think that it is very likely that they will.<\/p>\n

By assembling 3 summaries that are highly visible, highlighted and impactful, Google has minimized\u00a0the need for many searchers to dig deeper. If searchers learn to trust this algo based “reviews for dummies” summary, Google could very well change searcher behaviors to rely on fewer reviews\u00a0in making a decision about a place.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
