From their blog <a href=\"http:\/\/googleandyourbusiness.blogspot.com\/2013\/05\/local-businesses-get-new-rating-system.html\">post<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Users who opt-in to the new Google Maps will now rate businesses on a scale that ranges from one to five stars. The system maintains the precision of the former 30 point scale while improving the readability and accessibility of the business listings. Your customers will be able to find up-to-date, accurate information on your business faster than ever. As a business owner, you\u2019ll notice that past ratings have been mapped to the five star system.<\/p>\n<p>Here is how the new scores are now <a href=\"http:\/\/productforums.google.com\/forum\/#!category-topic\/business\/need-advice\/4SomS7G5RUI\">calculated<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">poor\/fair = 2 stars<br \/>\ngood = 3 stars<br \/>\nvery good = 4 stars<br \/>\nexcellent = 5 stars<\/p>\n<p><b>Some other notes from Google:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Users on legacy Maps, mobile (Android + iOS), Google+, <a href=\"http:\/\/google.com\/\">Google.com<\/a>, and other properties will continue to see 30 point ratings for several more weeks\n<ul>\n<li>If a user is opted into the New Google Maps and clicks on a \u201cmore reviews\u201d they will be taken to a plus page where they will see the 5 star ratings<\/li>\n<li>However, if the same user had just navigated to the page from <a href=\"http:\/\/plus.google.com\/\">plus.google.com<\/a> they would see 30 point scale<\/li>\n<li>Note that users just searching on <a href=\"http:\/\/google.com\/\">google.com<\/a> not coming from New Google Maps will continue to see the old results.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Google will no longer be asking users to rate on specific dimensions\/aspects. For example, for restaurants users will no longer rate the \u201cfood\u201d, \u201cdecor\u201d and \u201cservice\u201d.\n<ul>\n<li>Google will show just one overall score (they used an algorithm to translate the food\/decor\/service scores into a blended overall score).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>To the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.smallbusinesssem.com\/googles-risk-using-30-point-rating-scale\/6075\/\">dismay<\/a> of many, Google <a href=\"http:\/\/blumenthals.com\/blog\/2012\/05\/30\/google-local-reviews\/\">replaced<\/a> the yellow stars with the Zagat system in May, 2012 when Google <a href=\"http:\/\/blumenthals.com\/blog\/2012\/05\/30\/google-places-pages-are-no-more-but-what-has-changed\/\">rolled<\/a> Places pages into Plus. It was clear from August of last year that Google was <a href=\"http:\/\/blumenthals.com\/blog\/2012\/08\/08\/is-google-thinking-about-abandoning-the-zagat-rating-system\/\">testing<\/a> a return to the 5 Star system and they were <a href=\"http:\/\/blumenthals.com\/blog\/2012\/06\/12\/google-we-can-show-stars-if-we-want-to\/\">never removed <\/a>from local AdWords display.<\/p>\n<p>The current iteration of stars appear to be universally red and it seems that they will roll out to all properties over the next few months. The new &#8220;Places&#8221; <a href=\"http:\/\/blumenthals.com\/blog\/2013\/05\/15\/google-rolling-out-new-places-results-page\/\">results<\/a> that were spotted earlier will apparently be the results seen when visited from the new Maps interface.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Along with a total revamp of Maps, Google has announced at I\/O, the\u00a0forum and their blog the return to a 5 star review system.
