This afternoon the folks at VentureBeat received a <a href=\"http:\/\/venturebeat.com\/2011\/12\/06\/google-mobile-deals\/\">confirmation<\/a> from Google that check-in offers from Places will be coming to Google+ next week:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><em>\u201cWhile prepping for a test of a new check-in offer feature, we published a support center article a little early and have since removed the article. We apologize for any confusion this may have caused. Please stay tuned for roll out of this feature for merchants, which we\u2019re targeting for next week.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Hints of a Places based check-in offer <a href=\"http:\/\/blumenthals.com\/blog\/2011\/05\/26\/google-places-mobile-is-a-broad-rollout-of-check-in-offers-imminent\/#more-10045\">surfaced<\/a> as far back as May when it appeared that they would be heading to Lattitude. Obviously the roll out of Plus shortly after that changed Google&#8217;s plan.<\/p>\n<p>Offers have a long and sorry history in Google Places. Originally introduced as Coupons in 2007, they were <a href=\"http:\/\/blumenthals.com\/blog\/2009\/01\/30\/confessions-of-a-google-enabler-in-search-of-coupons\/\">largely hidden<\/a> from public view for most of their existence. Google Coupons saw some successes during 2007 and <a href=\"http:\/\/blumenthals.com\/blog\/2008\/03\/13\/how-many-google-coupons-are-there-updated\/\">2008<\/a> having partnered up with ValPak but by early 2009 Places <a href=\"http:\/\/blumenthals.com\/blog\/2009\/01\/20\/google-coupons-see-large-decline-in-major-markets-amongst-smbs\/\">coupons had completely tanked<\/a> due to lack of visibility. They <a href=\"http:\/\/blumenthals.com\/blog\/2010\/07\/12\/google-coupons-continue-their-rise-from-the-dead\/\">made a brief reappearance<\/a> in the main search results along with the Google&#8217;s fixed price local ad product Tags in June, 2010. In November of last year, Google <a href=\"http:\/\/blumenthals.com\/blog\/2010\/11\/15\/google-coupons-joining-the-witness-protection-program-as-google-offers\/\">changed<\/a> the name of the free Place based Coupons to Offers just before the failed acqusition <a href=\"http:\/\/blumenthals.com\/blog\/2010\/12\/01\/why-groupon-makes-sense\/\">talks with Groupon<\/a> and the subsequent <a href=\"http:\/\/blumenthals.com\/blog\/2011\/01\/21\/google-confirms-testing-a-groupon-like-product-google-offers\/\">roll-out of<\/a> Groupon like deals called, confusingly, Offers.<\/p>\n<p>Will the oft maligned Places <del datetime=\"2011-12-07T02:22:05+00:00\">Coupons<\/del> Offers finally get their day in the sun?
