{"id":10362,"date":"2011-06-29T08:25:33","date_gmt":"2011-06-29T12:25:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blumenthals.com\/blog\/?p=10362"},"modified":"2011-06-29T09:59:57","modified_gmt":"2011-06-29T13:59:57","slug":"google-places-and-maps-takes-on-a-new-look","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blumenthals.com\/blog\/2011\/06\/29\/google-places-and-maps-takes-on-a-new-look\/","title":{"rendered":"Google Places and Maps Takes on a New Look"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Yesterday afternoon Google, in anticipation of their coming Google+ social product, <a href=\"http:\/\/google-latlong.blogspot.com\/2011\/06\/refocused-map.html\">rolled out a new interface <\/a>across most if not all of their products including Google Maps, Google Places, the Place Pages AND the mobile interface. The change, first spotted last weekend, adds a sharp, modern and one might even say a designed look to the UI. While the UI is a significant change, it is but a prelude and perhaps foundational change to Google&#8217;s forthcoming effort to &#8220;socialize&#8221; all of their products with the <a href=\"http:\/\/searchengineland.com\/first-look-hands-on-with-google-plus-83486\">new Google+<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>You will notice in my screen shot, the integration of Google+ along with the many other changes to the interface:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blumenthals.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/Screen-shot-2011-06-29-at-8.11.14-AM.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-10363\" title=\"Screen-shot-2011-06-29-at-8.11.14-AM\" src=\"http:\/\/blumenthals.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/Screen-shot-2011-06-29-at-8.11.14-AM-520x348.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"520\" height=\"348\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blumenthals.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/Screen-shot-2011-06-29-at-8.11.14-AM-520x348.jpg 520w, https:\/\/blumenthals.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/Screen-shot-2011-06-29-at-8.11.14-AM-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blumenthals.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/Screen-shot-2011-06-29-at-8.11.14-AM.jpg 877w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 520px) 100vw, 520px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Places page has a similar look but the outcome, because of the start contrasts and additional whitespace is more striking. Although it does seem that there might be more ads than previously. Like the One Box, the recent changes were obviously made with this UI update in mind.
