I had not seen this previously although Greg Sterling had <a href=\"http:\/\/searchengineland.com\/google-offer-ads-not-google-offers-in-the-wild-81418\">reported<\/a> on seeing them in the wild on SEL last week. It clearly indicates Google&#8217;s desire to expand the roll of coupons as a revenue generator. They were <a href=\"http:\/\/blumenthals.com\/blog\/2006\/10\/20\/google-conference-call-talks-about-local-monetization\/\">introduced<\/a> in late 2006 and but <a href=\"http:\/\/blumenthals.com\/blog\/2009\/01\/30\/confessions-of-a-google-enabler-in-search-of-coupons\/\">left to languish<\/a> for a number of years before seeing <a href=\"http:\/\/blumenthals.com\/blog\/2009\/08\/15\/google-lbc-new-link-to-coupon-feature-raising-visibility-of-coupons\/\">some<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/blumenthals.com\/blog\/2009\/08\/15\/google-lbc-new-link-to-coupon-feature-raising-visibility-of-coupons\/\">activity<\/a> in late 2009 and through 2010 <a href=\"http:\/\/blumenthals.com\/blog\/2010\/07\/12\/google-coupons-continue-their-rise-from-the-dead\/\">with<\/a> the Tags Beta. 2010 culminated with the failed <a href=\"http:\/\/blumenthals.com\/blog\/2010\/12\/01\/why-groupon-makes-sense\/\">effort to purchase Groupon<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>2011 on the other hand has seen lots of other activity on the coupon front for Google.\u00a0Besides the new Adwords coupon test <a href=\"http:\/\/searchengineland.com\/google-offer-ads-not-google-offers-in-the-wild-81418\">first seen<\/a> last week, rumors of Google Offers, their Groupon competitor, first <a href=\"http:\/\/blumenthals.com\/blog\/2011\/01\/21\/google-confirms-testing-a-groupon-like-product-google-offers\/\">surfaced<\/a> in January, with a full blown Offers beta <a href=\"http:\/\/blumenthals.com\/blog\/2011\/06\/01\/first-google-offer-hits-in-portland-70-off-at-floyds-coffee-shop\/\">rolling out<\/a> June 1 in Portland. Google also first <a href=\"http:\/\/google-latlong.blogspot.com\/2011\/03\/check-in-gain-status-and-unlock-offers.html\">rolled out<\/a> Latitude Check-In Offers at SXSW in March with a\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/blumenthals.com\/blog\/2011\/04\/09\/google-latitude-adds-checkin-offers-nationwide\/\">limited national test<\/a> in April. They <a href=\"http:\/\/blumenthals.com\/blog\/2011\/04\/18\/the-logic-behind-the-demise-of-google-tags\/\">cancelled<\/a> the Tags product in April as well.
