ROCHESTER AREA:

The wonderful Fiddlers' Fair...

For over a quarter century, the area's best traditional music event
–– the Fiddlers' Fair at Genesee Country Village, 1410 Flint Hill Rd.
in Mumford (less than 25 miles southwest of Rochester). Hundreds of
musicians and thousands of spectators, four stages with individual
fiddlers, fiddle bands and clubs, students, amateurs and pros,
performing for two full days. Plus a country-western "open mike" for
the singers, teaching workshops, performances by the Harp Guild on
Sunday, non-stop jamming with guitars, banjos, hammered dulcimers,
and mandolins joining the fiddlers scattered all 'round the restored
village and the "Great Meadow." My group the Flint Hill Folk will be
the host band, kicking off the festival each day, MC-ing the main
stage, and backing up fiddlers who need guitar, piano, bass or
whatever. If you like Northern, Southern, or Celtic fiddle music,
you should be there; find out more at http://www.gcv.org , the
Village's website.

Saturday-Sunday, August 19-20: As mentioned above, it's the Old-Time
Fiddlers' Fair at Genesee Country Village, 1410 Flint Hill Rd. in
Mumford; continuous music 11 a.m.-5 p.m. both days; scheduled
appearances by the Flint Hill Folk, Great Bear Trio, City Fiddle,
East Rochester Celtic Music Society, Hootin' Holler Hotshots, Rosie's
Ready Mix, Fort Hill String Band, Marty O'Keefe & Ted McGraw, Jackie
Hobbs, Ernie McDonald, Bill Gregg, Almost Irish, Fiddlers of the
Genesee, Fiddlestix, Sassanak Ladies, String Song Mandolin Orchestra,
Frontier Middle School Fiddlers, etc., etc. Free admission for
musicians, too. I'll manage the main stage, and play a lot of back-
up; see www.gcv.org and learn more.
Saturday, August 19: A day at the Fiddlers' Fair, then a Civil War
Ball at Hamlin Beach State Park, 7-10 p.m.; music by Flint Hill Folk,
Jim Kimball calling.
