Google Places Forum Adds Tags Discussion Area

Late yesterday Google added a new discussion category, Discuss Google Tags with other users, in the Google Places Help Forums. It is billed as a place to “learn more about Google Tags and discuss the same with other users”.

Having followed the forums regularly Tags discussions have occurred only sporadically. In the last Places Newsletter Google did offer up an actual number although it is not clear that you can get technical assistance at the number. Regardless, a forum makes sense from Google’s point as every call that is shunted to the forums saves them costs.

Since Tags is a paid product, it is unclear whether Google will staff the new forum with any higher level of personnel than has been the case in the other Places forum. One would hope so but as they say: “Don’t hold your breath”.

Please consider leaving a comment as your input will help me (& everyone else) better understand and learn about local.

  1. I got this ad in a places email last week and called the number. Explained an issue where I signed up for a ad and the ad split to two listings. One of which I have no control over.

The guy simply said, this is a sales number… Not a support number and directed me to the help forums. Support issues are getting worse and worse. They now have a paid product with no support and are just going to anger more smb’s.

  2. Thank you for the “public” link Mike! Although, I feel like I have been down that path before, submit the form and then wait for weeks for an automated reply, if I’m lucky! I can’t tell you how many hours I have spent annoying employee’s and blog comment readers with my detest for Google’s lack of support for a now PAID product. I really don’t understand how they justify treating their customers like this, well I could venture a few guess’s, but I’ll save that for when I finally get my blog up and running haha.
