Understanding Google Maps & Local Search – Developing Knowledge about Local Search

October 16, 2009

This season has been temporarily interrupted to bring you this important announcement:

Category: Google Places (Maps & Local) – Mike – 4:29 pm

Upstate NY is known for its roast beef on wick, salt rising bread and its colorful display of fall foliage. Some here think that the fall leaves are as good as or even surpass Vermont for beauty.

The peak season for viewing this annual pageant is usually the few days before and after the long Columbus Day weekend.

However, this year the colors have suddenly been somewhat muted by….

Winter? Well at least an early snowfall.

    And they have been predicting a warmer winter this year.

    Looks like the weather is as unpredictable as Google ;-)

  2. What a beautiful picture, Mike. Thanks for posting that. It’s pretty…but I guess a bit worrisome. Has it ever snowed this early where you live?

  3. We’ve not seen snow just yet but last weekend we got hit with an early cold snap that almost hit minus 10 Celsius (14 Fahrenheit) overnight. Leaves had barely begun to turn color and that quick freeze killed off a lot of plant growth. Leaves are starting to fall from trees now, still green, not having had time to properly do their pigment changes to yellows, reds and oranges.

    I think I would rather bet on the weather :)

    @Miriam
    This is the first time it has snowed this early since 1901

    @stever
    Take a touch of Canadian cold, add a dab of the jetstream and some lake affect moisture and we get snow! I am sure that it will put a damper on the fall celebrations that’s for sure.

    We had snow and more snow…48 hours of it but the sun is shining and the weathermen are calling for a return to fall like conditions.

    That being said, if you do head this way be sure to look me up. Although I am not a downhill sort of fellow, I do love x-country and there is always a good meal on the table.

  7. thanks Mike….while it’s still a bit early, yes, I will be down usually in the E’ville area at least 4 or 5 times each winter…

    so, soon as my plans firm up, I’ll email you and yes, maybe we can meet for a beer somewhere and chat….

    till then, keep on “local-ing!”….

    :-) ))
